BZgA is a governmental organization working in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Security, is responsiblefor national prevention and health promotion programmes in Germany.
The Ministry deals with two branches of social insurance: namely health and long term care. Units with responsibility for issues related to health inequalities are the following:
Department GP1: law on prevention, quality assurance, innovative models of prevention
Department GP2: basic questions of prevention, personal responsibility, self-help, environment-related health protection
Department GP3: target group work, Forum Prevention, cooperation in prevention, women and health
The ministry deals with two branches of social security: pension, unemployment and accident insurance. Units within the portfolio of the ministry with responsibility for issues related to health inequalities are the following:
Department IV: social insurance, pension, social law, social compensation
Department V: affairs of handicapped people, rehabilitation, welfare, integration
The ministry coordinates predominantly one pivotal programme related to health inequalities. In the framework of the Socially Integrative City Programme they are responsible for the E&C Programme (Development and Chances for young People in deprived areas).
